about your sitter
Hi! My friends call me H and here's a little about me. I got my first chance to dogsit when friends in south Boulder needed someone to stay with their golden retriever several times in the fall and winter of 2001. Since then, referrals have created many great dogsitting opportunities for me and has built into a part-time business.
I grew up in rural Illinois always having a dog as a constant companion. In college at Northern Illinois, I had a golden of my own - named Denver since she was born on Superbowl Sunday the second consecutive year the Broncos won the Superbowl (I was a Bronco fan before ever considering a move to Colorado!). At a year old, she was full of a rare cancer and had to be put to sleep when it traveled into her brain. I haven't gotten another dog since; instead I have many loving dog personalities!
My graduate program in blind rehabilitation took me to an observational 3 day seminar at The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ. It was incredible to walk blindfolded as the dogs guided me and listened to the voice commands. It was then I knew how much I liked working with dogs but it would take several years to realize the opportunity to take care of beloved pets in their own homes. Now I have quite a few regulars and online freelance work on the side that allows me to work from anywhere. I plan to take on new dogs until my schedule is full, while still allowing me to be available as much as possible for my regulars.
